The Heart of Glenrothes

hello, i am gemma. I thought it would be nice to write some things here about Glenrothes.

I come from the heart of Glenrothes, the town center, usually known as Auchmuty, but we dont like to tell people that because they automatically assume we're drug dealers/prostitutes/old. We are none of those. :D

So, Glenrothes. I've lived here my whole life, starting out in Markinch (nice place), moving to various other parts and finally settling(i hope) in the Doom House, with two of the most fabulous people ever, Jodi and Dave. I've always said Glenrothes would be better if i could drive and get away from it. But i cant really drive. Well, i can, but i havent passed my test. The thing is, there's nothing that wrong with Glenrothes, its just that there's not much right.

There is a severe shortage of anything. No cinema. No venues (dont even think about saying, "what about the halls") No jobs. There's no future here. And that's why people move away.

I like it here though. I hate the snobbery of people who say i cant wait to get out of here, who say, i hate people who work in factories here with no career, i hate that. people should remember where they came from. Not that there's any harm in bettering yourself, just think of the jobs your parents did to bring you up in this town, to provide the best for you. Then to pay for you to go off and live in the city, to live the lives that they would of loved to live, if "they had had the opportunity"

i never really set out with a plan for this blog, and as a result its a bit crazy. but maybe if we put more effort into making Glenrothes better instead of moaning that its rubbish, we could create a brighter future for everybody.
thankyou please. :)

cheers Gemma,
we'll hopefully get some of your photography on the site too. Once its running, I'll probably put a note on the home page that lets people who need creative work done get in contact with the Spoon team, as there'll be musicians, photographers, writers, webby folk, video stuff people and so on involved, so it might become a bit of a portal for companies in Fife looking for creative work to get done. That would be good anyway.
Forum will be up soon, when I remember my password for the web account!
bye!
